Tentang

Within the Somali capital of Mogadishu on the Indian Ocean coast, Masaajidka Dugsiga Imam Malik combines a mosque with a Qur'anic school and memorisation centre named after the great founding imam of the Medinan tradition. Mogadishu has been one of the most important cities of the Horn of Africa for more than a thousand years, mentioned by medieval Arab geographers as a prosperous Muslim trading port that sent gold, ivory, and fabrics across the Indian Ocean networks linking East Africa to Arabia, Persia, India, and China. The city's old quarter still carries the name Xamar, and its ancient mosques, including the Fakhr al Din Mosque of the thirteenth century, bear witness to the deep Islamic heritage of the Somali people.
Imam Malik ibn Anas (may God have mercy on him), who lived in Madinah in the eighth century and is buried in the Baqi cemetery of the Prophet's city, compiled the Muwatta, one of the earliest surviving collections of hadith and legal opinions. The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, said that a time would come when people would strike the sides of camels in search of knowledge, and they would find no scholar more knowledgeable than the scholar of Madinah, and many commentators have seen in that hadith a reference to Malik himself. Dedicating a Mogadishu school and mosque to his name places the Somali students in a long chain of learning reaching back through centuries to the very soil of Madinah.
The compound consists of a central prayer hall, surrounding classrooms where children memorise the Qur'an on wooden slates, a library of printed mushafs and basic texts, and a small courtyard with an ablution block. Pupils begin their day with Fajr prayer, move into their morning recitation circles, break for a simple meal of anjero, tea, and beans, and return for afternoon lessons in Arabic grammar and prophetic biography. Friday sermons are delivered in Somali and Arabic, and in Ramadan volunteers prepare collective iftars of rice, goat meat, and sweet dates. Accurate daily prayer times for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha at the complex appear on this page for every resident and visitor in the Banaadir region.
