Rising at the foot of Mount Sabalan, the third highest peak in Iran, Rasul Allah Mosque belongs to the devout community of Meshgin Shahr, a city whose written history stretches across more than a thousand years. Medieval chroniclers such as Hamdallah Mustawfi mentioned the town in the fourteenth century under the older name Khiyav, and archaeological finds near Khorramabad Meshgin Shahr suggest that people settled this highland valley in the Iron Age, long before the coming of Islam. Today the city sits at roughly 1400 metres above sea level, cooled by the rivers Khiav, Anar, and Meshgin Chai that tumble down from the snows of Sabalan.
The mosque carries the most honoured of titles, Rasul Allah, the Messenger of God, a name that Muslims pronounce with reverence whenever they remember the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). Naming a masjid in this manner is an invitation to every worshipper to recall the mercy, truthfulness, and steadfastness of the Messenger, and to walk home after prayer with a renewed intention to follow his character in small daily matters as well as in great ones.
Local architecture reflects the cold continental climate of Ardabil province. Thick walls, small arched windows, and a domed sanctuary keep the interior warm through long mountain winters, while coloured tiles and carefully painted inscriptions soften the austerity. Worshippers remove boots stained with Sabalan snow at the entrance, wash in warm ablution rooms, and gather on patterned carpets for Fajr while the peaks outside remain bathed in pale blue light. In Ramadan, the community shares simple iftars of tea, bread, Sabalan honey, and hot soups prepared by volunteer families.
This page offers daily prayer times, the mosque's location within Meshgin Shahr, and background notes to help visitors from elsewhere in Iran, as well as pilgrims, hikers returning from Sabalan, and curious travellers, plan their worship without confusion or delay during every season of the year. Meshgin Shahr is famed for its thermal springs, ancient stone monuments from the Iron Age, and the celebrated Sabalan honey produced from the pollen of more than forty flowering plants on the mountain slopes. Many worshippers here take quiet pride in welcoming strangers, pouring black tea into small glasses, and insisting that no guest should leave the neighbourhood without at least one shared meal and a kind word of parting.
