Astanh Mbarkh Amamzadh Syd Abrahym Abn Mwsy Kazm

Resting within the town of Meshgin Shahr in Ardabil Province of north western Iran, the blessed shrine known as Astaneh Mobarakeh Imamzadeh Sayyid Ibrahim ibn Musa al Kazim honours a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, through the noble line of Imam Musa al Kazim. Ardabil Province, nestled between the Talish mountains and the Caspian coast, has long been a land of pilgrimage and mystical poetry, famous across the Persian world for its carpets, its natural springs at Sarein, and above all for the shrine complex of Sheikh Safi al Din at Ardabil, a UNESCO World Heritage site that gave its name to an entire dynasty.

The term Imamzadeh, literally the child of an imam, refers to descendants of the noble household whose graves are scattered across Iran from the Caspian shores to the Persian Gulf. Sayyid Ibrahim traced his lineage back through Imam Musa al Kazim, the seventh in the noble line, and onward through Imam Ja'far al Sadiq, Imam Muhammad al Baqir, Imam Ali Zain al Abidin, and Imam Husayn, son of Ali and Fatima al Zahra, may God be pleased with them. His resting place in Meshgin Shahr has drawn pilgrims across the centuries seeking intercession, consolation, and healing from every sorrow.

The shrine itself is a modest yet beloved building. A blue tiled dome rises above the burial chamber, inscriptions in Persian and Arabic name the noble ancestor, carved wooden lattice screens called zarih surround the tomb, and oil lamps burn softly beside bouquets of rose water sprinkled by devoted visitors. Surrounding courtyards accommodate pilgrims who travel from Tabriz, Rasht, and Tehran to recite the Ziyarat Jamia Kabira and to offer supplications for their families.

Prayer timings for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha at the shrine are listed on the present page, together with the Meshgin Shahr address and helpful notes for pilgrims arriving from Ardabil city, the hot springs of Sarein, or the dramatic peak of Mount Sabalan which rises to more than four thousand metres nearby. During the sacred months of Muharram and Safar, pilgrims crowd the courtyards with black banners, and during the birthdays of the noble imams the domes are illuminated with strings of lights. Visitors of every background are welcome to enter respectfully, to recite al Fatiha beside the tomb, and to carry away the serene blessing that pours softly from this cherished sanctuary of the beloved prophetic household each passing day.
