Abubakar Saddiq Mosque

Abubakar Saddiq Mosque in the Dome area of greater Accra, Ghana, honours in its name Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, the first of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs and the closest companion of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). The epithet al-Siddiq, meaning the truthful one, was given to him by the Prophet and celebrates the remarkable integrity that marked every stage of his life — from his early acceptance of the message in Makkah, through his generous support of the early Muslims, to his steady leadership of the community after the Prophet's passing. Naming a mosque after him invokes both his integrity and the broader ethic of truthfulness that Islam places at the heart of the believer's character. The masjid serves its Ghanaian neighbourhood with the five daily prayers in congregation and a strong weekly Friday gathering. The building is well maintained, with a clean prayer hall oriented toward Makkah, a clear mihrab, a simple minbar and adequate provision for men and women worshippers, supported by a reliable ablution facility. Friday khutbahs are typically delivered in a blend of Arabic, English and local Ghanaian languages, reflecting the diversity of the congregation, and often return to themes connected to Abu Bakr's example — truthfulness in speech, sincerity in worship, generosity toward the needy, courage in standing up for justice and steady leadership at the family and community level. The mosque supports religious education for children through Qur'an and Arabic classes and occasionally hosts adult halaqat on aqeedah, fiqh and seerah. During Ramadan the masjid becomes a centre of local spiritual life, with nightly taraweeh, shared iftars, Qur'an completion events and charitable outreach.
