关于

Abelenkpe Central Mosque serves the Muslim residents of Abelenkpe, a residential neighbourhood in the greater Accra area of Ghana, with a particular focus on the surrounding community of the Dome suburb. As a central mosque, it plays the role of a primary house of worship for its local Muslim population, gathering worshippers across the five daily prayers and for the weekly Friday congregation, and acting as a reference point for major religious occasions such as the two Eids, communal iftars during Ramadan and funeral prayers for community members. Ghana's Muslim community is predominantly Sunni with a strong tradition of Maliki jurisprudence, and that classical framework shapes both the worship and the teaching offered at the mosque. The building is a functional community institution, with a clean prayer hall, a clear mihrab, a simple minbar, a reliable ablution facility and adequate provision for men and women worshippers. Friday khutbahs are typically delivered in a combination of Arabic, English and sometimes Hausa or other local languages, reflecting the diversity of the congregation, and often address themes such as sincerity in worship, honest earning, the rights of parents and neighbours, the upbringing of children and the responsibilities of Muslims in a plural Ghanaian society. The mosque supports religious education for children through Qur'an and Arabic classes and occasionally offers adult programmes on aqeedah, fiqh and seerah. During Ramadan the masjid becomes a focal point for the local community, with nightly taraweeh, shared iftars, Qur'an completion events and charitable outreach to needy families. Eid prayers gather worshippers in large numbers, often spilling into open spaces adjacent to the mosque. Visitors from other backgrounds are welcomed respectfully at appointed times, and the mosque's ongoing work is sustained through donations, membership contributions and the quiet volunteer effort of local worshippers. The mosque's proximity to both long-established Ghanaian residences and newer developments in the Dome area means that its congregation blends generations in an unusual way, with elders who remember Accra before its recent expansion praying alongside younger families shaped by the city's very different contemporary rhythms and expectations.
