Tentang

Ehlibeyt Camii bears a name of considerable theological weight: Ehl-i Beyt, the People of the Household of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم, a phrase which in Islamic tradition refers particularly to the Prophet's family — his daughter Fāṭima, her husband ʿAlī, and their sons al-Ḥasan and al-Ḥusayn — and, in a broader sense, to all those Muslims who trace their lineage to this blessed household. To name a mosque Ehl-i Beyt is to place it under the patronage of the Prophet's family and to signal a particular devotion to the love and respect for them that is incumbent upon every Muslim. The Ankara mosque bearing this name is a dignified neighbourhood structure of carefully considered construction, with a single minaret, a central dome, and a well-kept forecourt. Inside, the prayer hall is carpeted in warm tones, and the mihrab is finished with Kütahya tile. Calligraphic panels along the walls include the names of the members of the Ehl-i Beyt alongside the more usual inscriptions of divine names and Qur'anic verses. The imam's Friday sermons often engage with the themes evoked by the mosque's name — the rights of the Prophet's family, the spiritual station of Fāṭima (may God be pleased with her), the patience of the Imam Ḥasan, the martyrdom of the Imam Ḥusayn at Karbalāʾ. Women pray in an upper gallery, and Qur'an classes for children run throughout the year. Ablution facilities are clean and heated. During Ramadan the mosque runs a full programme of tarawih and community iftars. A small mevlid gathering is held in the mosque each year on the tenth of Muharram in memory of the martyrs of Karbalāʾ, a quiet observance of the Ashūrāʾ traditions preserved within Turkish Sunni Muslim practice, in which verses of the Qur'an are recited and supplications are offered for all the members of the Prophet's household and their companions who were slain on that painful day. For Muslim visitors to central Ankara who hold the love of the Prophet's family in particular esteem, Ehlibeyt Camii is a particularly fitting place to pray, and the atmosphere is marked by a quiet reverence befitting its name.
