Tentang

Along the shore of Al Dakira in the northern Qatari municipality of Al Khor, the Al Dakira Beach Historical Mosque rests on a headland that looks out over the shallow turquoise waters of the Gulf. Al Khor itself, whose name means the inlet or creek, has been an important Qatari fishing and pearl diving town for several centuries, and the wider area of Al Dakira preserves the remains of a historic settlement whose coral stone houses, walled gardens, and mosques testify to the endurance of Qatari coastal life long before the modern oil and gas industry transformed the country after the middle of the twentieth century. The mosque belongs to the small group of heritage masjids in Qatar whose walls were raised from coral stone quarried along the coast and bonded with a gypsum plaster mixed with crushed sea shells. Its simple form reflects the modest prosperity of pre oil Qatari fishing communities, when the sea provided both livelihood and the materials for building. Within these walls, pearl divers gathered before the long summer expedition known as the Ghaws al Kabir to ask for divine protection, recited the Qur'an during the weeks of Ramadan, and listened to the khutbah of the local imam on Fridays. The architecture is utterly unpretentious. Low coral stone walls whitewashed to a dazzling brightness reflect the fierce Gulf sun, a flat roof supported by mangrove poles imported from the East African coast shades the interior, a small square minaret carries the adhan above the surrounding palm groves, and a simple mihrab framed by a hand carved pattern points across the Arabian Peninsula toward Makkah. A shaded courtyard welcomes worshippers arriving from the beach and the village lanes. Daily prayer times for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha at the Al Dakira Beach Historical Mosque in Al Khor, together with its address, a map, and practical visitor notes, appear on this page for the convenience of Qatari residents, travellers from Doha, and international tourists interested in the maritime heritage of the Arabian Peninsula. Al Khor is celebrated for its mangrove forest, the traditional dhow builders' workshops, and the restored old fishing port. After Maghrib, worshippers and visitors often walk along the beach to watch the evening tide withdraw from the coral shelf, carrying home the gentle breeze and the lingering aromas of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) Sunnah of quiet gratitude.
