Tentang

Situated within the Uludağ University Faculty of Theology in the Yıldırım district of Bursa, this university mosque serves students, faculty, and staff of one of Türkiye's major centres of Islamic higher education. The İlahiyat Fakültesi at Uludağ University has trained imams, preachers, Qur'an teachers, and Islamic studies scholars for decades, carrying forward the traditions of classical religious learning within the framework of modern Turkish academic institutions. Bursa itself holds a cherished place in Turkish Islamic memory as the first capital of the Ottoman state, founded in 1326 after Orhan Gazi captured the city from the Byzantine empire, and its monumental mosques, bazaars, and covered baths helped set the pattern that later Ottoman builders carried across three continents. The Yıldırım district takes its name from Sultan Bayezid I, known as Yıldırım meaning lightning for the speed of his military campaigns, and his great mosque complex remains a landmark in this part of the city. The university mosque draws on the Ottoman tradition in a contemporary interpretation, with rendered walls, a central dome, a single minaret, and a carpeted prayer hall whose mihrab features tile work and Qur'anic inscriptions. Five daily prayers gather students, faculty, and staff, and Jumu'ah fills the hall with attendees from across the campus. Sermons in Turkish address Qur'anic themes, hadith guidance, and reflections on the intellectual traditions that the Faculty of Theology cultivates through its academic programmes. Ramadan transforms the university calendar, with iftar meals served in student halls and attended by faculty who model Islamic conduct for the next generation of religious professionals. Taraweeh prayers draw large numbers of students eager for the blessings of the month. Qur'anic memorisation competitions, academic conferences, and public lectures fill the educational calendar. Women participate fully in academic life and worship in dedicated sections. Eid prayers draw the university community together in shared celebration. Nearby landmarks include the Yıldırım Bayezid complex, the great Ulu Cami in central Bursa, the Yeşil Türbe shrine, the covered silk bazaars of the old city, and the forested slopes of Uludağ mountain itself. Future imams trained at this campus will carry what they learn here into mosques across Türkiye and the wider world, giving this university institution a reach far beyond the physical boundaries of the Bursa faculty.
