关于

Mescid-i Aksa in Vösendorf stands as a reminder that Austria's Muslim communities have put down deeper roots than is often appreciated, with masjids now serving working families in the suburbs that surround Vienna on all sides. Vösendorf is a small town in the Mödling district immediately south of the Austrian capital, best known to Viennese for its large shopping centre and its mixed residential character. Its Muslim community is composed largely of Turkish-origin families whose forebears arrived as Gastarbeiter in the second half of the twentieth century and who have since raised Austrian-born children and grandchildren who now move easily between German and Turkish and between European civic life and Islamic tradition. The masjid's name, Mescid-i Aksa, the Turkish rendering of the Arabic Al-Masjid al-Aqsa, pays homage to the third holiest site in Islam, in Jerusalem, a pattern common to Turkish diaspora mosques that wish to anchor their community's identity in a sacred geography stretching from Istanbul to the Holy Land. The prayer hall is modest, typical of association-run mosques in Austria: a converted commercial or residential space, with a carpeted floor, a mihrab wall oriented carefully toward Makkah, and shelves holding Qur'ans in Arabic and parallel Turkish translations for the community's younger members. The imam, often trained in Turkey and assigned through the Diyanet's foreign services, delivers the Friday khutbah in Turkish with passages in Arabic, though Austrian-born youth sometimes request parallel summaries in German. Alongside the five daily prayers the masjid hosts Qur'an classes for children at weekends, Ramadan iftars, and marriage and funeral services for the community. Visitors from outside the community are welcomed with warmth; non-Muslims are generally received respectfully if they arrive during non-prayer times and approach a responsible person at the door. Modest dress, removal of shoes, and quiet conduct are expected at every visit without exception. Austria's broader Muslim community is diverse, and Vösendorf's masjid is one meaningful part of that landscape. Community picnics organised in nearby Vösendorf parks during summer extend the masjid's social reach beyond the prayer hall, drawing together children from several surrounding towns.
