Tentang

In the Loire Valley city of Tours, famous across the world for its medieval kings, Renaissance chateaux, and lush river landscapes, the Turkish Cultural Association gathers the Turkish Muslim community for prayer, education, and shared social life. Tours itself is one of the great historic cities of France, capital of the Touraine region and once an important centre of pilgrimage due to its association with Saint Martin. Today it is home to a lively university, a preserved medieval quarter, and a diverse population that includes Turkish families whose grandparents arrived from Anatolia during the labour migration decades of the 1960s and 1970s.

Turkey's long Islamic heritage, reaching back to the Seljuq and Ottoman centuries, has shaped the devotional life of this community. Turkish Muslims in France preserve the distinctive traditions of their homeland, including the unhurried Turkish style of Qur'anic recitation, the solemn chanting of salawat upon the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, and the annual celebration of the mawlid with readings from the beloved Mevlid i Sherif poem of Suleyman Chelebi, the fifteenth century Bursa scholar whose verses are still memorised by many Turkish children today.

The association's building serves a variety of functions. A spacious prayer hall on the ground floor accommodates daily prayers and Jumu'ah, classrooms above host weekend Qur'anic education and Turkish language lessons for children born on French soil, a kitchen prepares food for Ramadan iftars and for the weekly community meals that follow Friday prayer, and a small library offers books in Turkish, Arabic, and French. The imam often travels between Turkey and Tours, bringing fresh knowledge from Anatolian scholars while also responding to the questions of young people growing up in a French speaking environment.

On this page, residents of the Centre Val de Loire region, Turkish French families, tourists visiting the chateaux of the Loire, and students at the University of Tours will find accurate daily prayer times for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha at the Association Culturelle Turque de Tours, along with its address, a location map, and notes that assist every worshipper in attending congregational prayer with the calm confidence of knowing the schedule in advance, and with a warm appreciation of the Turkish hospitality that distinguishes this welcoming community year round.
