Tentang

Rooted in the riverside village of Pangkalan Gelebak along the winding Musi tributaries of South Sumatra, Masjid Pembela Agung Alhusna is an Indonesian neighbourhood mosque that draws its worshippers from rubber tappers, oil palm cultivators, fishermen, and traders whose lives are still measured by the rising of the tide and the cycles of the monsoon rains. The Musi basin has been an Islamic land since the powerful Sultanate of Palembang Darussalam flourished in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, welcoming Arab, Persian, and Indian scholars who deepened Sumatran Qur'anic learning and produced rich local traditions of poetry, manuscripts, and oral religious instruction still treasured today.
The name Pembela Agung Alhusna, meaning roughly the Great Defender of the Most Beautiful Names, evokes the Qur'anic verse in which God declares that to Him belong the most beautiful names. The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, taught that God has ninety nine names, and whoever memorises them enters Paradise. Sumatran Muslim families have long cultivated an intimate relationship with these names, reciting them in evening gatherings, weaving them into wedding prayers, and inscribing them on the walls of mosques and homes. Dedicating a village masjid to this theme keeps the community's attention on the living presence of the Creator in every breath.
Architecturally the mosque follows the characteristic southern Sumatran style. A tiered pyramidal roof lifts above the prayer hall, a slender minaret rises nearby, and wide verandas extend around three sides to welcome the evening breezes from the river. The interior is bright and simple, with a carved wooden mihrab, rattan screens between the men's and women's sections, and ceiling fans turning slowly through the humid afternoon. Friday prayers are delivered partly in Bahasa Indonesia and partly in local Malay, and in Ramadan the mosque courtyard becomes the stage for nightly iftars of pempek, nasi minyak, and sweet tea. This page carries the daily prayer times for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha at the masjid, giving every worshipper in Sungaigerong a clear schedule in which to meet the Lord of the worlds.
