Tentang

Rising in the middle of the lush University City campus, the University of Sharjah Mosque gathers students, professors, and visitors within one of the most ambitious educational projects of the Arabian Gulf. The University of Sharjah, established in 1997 by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, the ruler of Sharjah and a celebrated scholar in his own right, forms part of a wider cultural renaissance that has seen the emirate earn recognition as a UNESCO cultural capital of the Arab world. The campus itself, designed in a distinctive Islamic style with sweeping arcades and domes of pale stone, has been widely praised as a modern expression of Gulf architectural heritage.

The mosque at the centre of the campus is not only a place for the five daily prayers but also a living classroom where students from dozens of countries perform their worship side by side. Sharjah's Islamic heritage reaches back to long before modern times, for coastal pearl divers and desert travellers of the Qawasim region were known as staunch defenders of the faith in eras when the Arabian Gulf saw foreign fleets patrolling its waters. Today the emirate balances deep religious commitment with a lively culture of reading, publishing, and scholarly debate.

The building itself is a landmark of modern Gulf religious architecture. A broad central dome crowned with Qur'anic calligraphy rises above a square prayer hall, twin slender minarets flank the main entrance, and wide porticoes with pointed arches shelter worshippers arriving from the lecture halls and libraries. Inside, soft carpets in deep maroon and cream cover the floor; a carved stone mihrab marks the qiblah; and chandeliers in geometric patterns illuminate the interior. The call to prayer sounds clearly across the campus, drawing students from dormitories, laboratories, and seminar rooms into the rhythm of congregational worship.

Accurate prayer times for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha at the University of Sharjah Mosque are provided on this page, along with its precise location within the campus, a map, and notes that help students, staff, visiting scholars, and guests attending conferences or cultural festivals in the emirate to time their arrival correctly. The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, praised the seeking of knowledge as a road to paradise, and this masjid quietly upholds that teaching in every prayer and every lesson held nearby.
