关于

Serving a diverse Muslim community spread across Saint Cloud and the surrounding counties of central Minnesota, the Central Minnesota Islamic Center, also known as Masjid Imam al 'i, provides prayer space, classrooms, and community programmes for a congregation whose members come from East Africa, South Asia, the Levant, and North America. Minnesota's Muslim population has grown rapidly since the 1990s, particularly through Somali refugees resettled in the twin cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul and later radiating outward to cities such as Saint Cloud, Rochester, and Mankato, where they have built institutions combining spiritual, educational, and social services. The centre's alternate name honours Imam Muhammad ibn Idris al 'i, may God have mercy upon him, the great scholar born in Gaza in 767 CE and raised in Makkah, whose legal methodology and writings shaped Islamic jurisprudence across the Muslim world. Naming a mosque after al 'i reflects reverence for the foundational ulama whose works continue to guide contemporary scholarship. Saint Cloud itself is an old milling and granite quarrying city along the upper Mississippi river, now home to a public university and a growing immigrant population. The Islamic centre occupies a building adapted or purpose built for its role, with a spacious prayer hall, a separate women's area, classrooms for weekend and after school instruction in Arabic and Quranic recitation, offices for the imam and administrators, and multipurpose rooms for social functions. The five daily prayers are held with growing attendance, Jumu'ah swells to full capacity with khutbahs delivered in English and Arabic, and the blessed month of Ramadan brings nightly taraweeh, community iftar featuring Somali, Arab, and South Asian dishes, and intensified Quran study. The two Eid congregations often overflow into neighbouring halls or outdoor spaces. The centre also conducts interfaith dialogue with local churches, operates charitable initiatives for the poor, and provides guidance on marriage, family, and the spiritual nurturing of children growing up as Muslim Americans in the upper Midwest. Minnesota winters outside barely dent the warmth inside, where Somali thermoses of spiced tea circulate generously during the long evenings of Ramadan recitation sessions.
