Tentang

Endowed in the blessed memory of Zahra Muhammad Bahjat, the wife of Yusuf Muhammad al Nasrullah, this Kuwaiti mosque in the Sabah al Salim district of the Mubarak al Kabir governorate bears the practice of naming mosques after a late spouse as a perpetual sadaqah jariyah. Kuwaiti families often commission mosques in the names of their departed, trusting that every prayer offered within the walls of the endowed building will continue to yield reward for the named individual, a doctrine affirmed by the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, who taught that among the deeds continuing after death is a building erected for worship. Sabah al Salim is a residential suburb south of Kuwait City, laid out in the modernist grid of the country's post independence urban planning, with spacious villas, palm lined avenues and parks interspersed with schools and mosques. The mosque's architecture follows the Ministry of Awqaf standard design with subtle Kuwaiti flourishes, including a broad central dome of ribbed concrete painted a delicate cream, a tall minaret with two balconies decorated in green tile and arched windows filled with geometric wooden mashrabiya. Inside, the main hall is carpeted in deep red with rows of prayer markings, lit by chandeliers of amber tinted glass and cooled by powerful air conditioning necessary in the Gulf summer. The mihrab is faced with ivory marble inlaid with a calligraphic panel of Surah al Rahman, and the minbar is carved walnut with pierced screens. The women's section occupies an elevated platform behind decorative wooden screens, with its own entrance and wudu facilities. Friday sermons are conducted in Arabic by an imam appointed by the Ministry, and the mosque runs afternoon Qur'an memorisation classes for girls and boys. During Ramadan the extended Al Nasrullah family hosts nightly iftars of machboos, gers ogaili and ghimat served on long rugs in the courtyard, and Eid morning draws the local community to prayer followed by visits to elders. Visitors passing through Sabah al Salim are welcome, dressing modestly and observing the Kuwaiti etiquette of greeting the elderly first.
