Tentang

Based in the Breton capital of Rennes in western France, Association d'entraide des travailleurs franco turcs de Rennes serves the Turkish Muslim community of the city with a prayer hall, cultural activities, youth programmes, and support services for workers and their families. Rennes itself is the historic capital of Brittany, a city of some two hundred thousand residents known for its medieval timber framed houses, its university, its Parliament of Brittany, and its vibrant cultural life. The Turkish community in Rennes, like in most French cities, grew through waves of migration beginning in the 1960s, with workers arriving from Anatolia to fill labour shortages and later bringing their families to settle permanently in France.
French Turkish Muslim associations have played a central role in preserving the religious, linguistic, and cultural identity of their communities across generations born and raised in France. The tradition of entraide, mutual support, expressed in the association's name reflects both the Islamic principle of ta'awun ala al birr wa al taqwa, cooperation in righteousness and God consciousness, taught in the fifth surah of the Qur'an, and the French civic ideal of solidarity among workers. The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, taught that the believers in their mutual love, mercy, and compassion are like a single body; when one limb suffers, the whole body responds with sleeplessness and fever.
The centre offers daily congregational prayers, weekend Qur'an schools for children in Turkish and French, youth activities, adult Islamic studies, pastoral support for marriages, janazah arrangements, and engagement with the broader Rennes civic community. A modest converted building houses the main prayer hall, a kitchen, classrooms, and a tea room where elders gather in the evenings to share tea, baklava, and conversation about family, work, and the unfolding of the religious year. Ramadan brings collective iftars of corba, pide, and sweet lokum, while Eid draws the whole community into celebratory dress for the morning prayer. Daily prayer times for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha at the association appear on this page for every Rennes resident and traveller through Brittany.
