Tentang

Located in the historic Bavarian city of Nuremberg, Al Madina Darussalam serves as both a mosque and a German Pakistani cultural association, providing a welcoming home for Urdu speaking Muslims of the Franconian region. Pakistan's relationship with Germany dates especially to the post war decades when students arrived to study engineering, medicine, and the humanities at Bavarian universities, later settling and bringing their families. The association embodies the bridge between two cultures, teaching Urdu and Arabic alongside German, running weekly Qur'an classes for children, and hosting a quiet programme of cultural exchanges with neighbours.

The name Al Madina Darussalam combines two beloved titles. Al Madina refers to the blessed city of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, the illuminated Medina where the Prophet built the first mosque and established the foundations of Muslim civic life. Darussalam, the Abode of Peace, is one of the names of paradise mentioned in the Qur'an and also serves as a common title for mosques and cities across the Muslim world, from Dar es Salaam in Tanzania to countless neighbourhood masjids across South Asia. Combining these two names enriches the association's identity with a sense of both historical heritage and spiritual destination.

Nuremberg itself is one of the historic cities of Bavaria, celebrated for its medieval castle, its Christmas markets, and its long artisan traditions. Muslim communities began to settle in the city during the late twentieth century, and today mosques, halal butchers, Turkish bakeries, Pakistani restaurants, and Arab grocers flourish alongside traditional Franconian institutions. The Al Madina Darussalam centre occupies a converted commercial space, common among European mosques of the first generation, and has gradually added classrooms, a library, a small kitchen, and a tea room.

Accurate daily prayer timings for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha at Al Madina Darussalam appear on this page along with the Nuremberg address, a map pin, and hospitable notes for any visitor arriving from the Imperial Castle, the old town, or the Documentation Centre at the Nazi Party Rally Grounds. During Ramadan the community hosts shared iftars of biryani, nihari, haleem, chana chat, and sweet jalebi prepared by Pakistani families, and tarawih evenings fill the hall with the clear recitation of young hafizes trained locally and abroad. Any traveller journeying between Munich and Berlin is warmly welcomed to step within these patient halls, to kneel upon the green carpets among the friendly German Pakistani congregation, and to whisper a soft salawat upon the Prophet, upon every student who ever crossed an ocean in search of knowledge, and upon every family whose quiet evening table now gently holds two languages in one softly spreading and endlessly welcoming kind embrace.
