关于

Set within the growing settlement of Novyy Khushet on the outskirts of Makhachkala, this striking Dagestani mosque bears a double name honouring two great messengers, the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, and the Prophet Isa, upon whom be peace, son of Mary. The dedication reflects a beautiful north Caucasian tradition of affirming continuity across the prophetic chain, a conviction cherished by the Avar, Dargin, Kumyk, and Lak Muslims who populate this region. Dagestan has been a cradle of Islamic learning since the seventh century, when Arab envoys reached the Caspian shore, and its mountain villages produced scholars whose commentaries on grammar, jurisprudence, and spiritual refinement travelled from Derbent to Damascus. Novyy Khushet itself is a newer quarter, established to house families relocated from older aul settlements, and the mosque quickly became its civic anchor. Architecturally the building blends Caucasian stone masonry with Ottoman silhouettes, featuring a single slender minaret, a turquoise tiled dome, and window arches glazed with geometric patterns that recall the medieval carvings of Kubachi. The attached centre offers Quran memorisation, Arabic morphology, and classes on the seerah, drawing young people who might otherwise drift toward the distractions of the nearby regional capital. Friday congregations swell as labourers from the building trades and pensioners from surrounding blocks walk in through the tiled courtyard, many pausing at the modest fountain for ablution before the khutbah. Ramadan evenings are particularly luminous, with long taraweeh rak'ahs and neighbourhood families bringing bowls of khinkal dumplings and halva for the communal iftar. On Eid al Fitr and Eid al Adha the open ground beside the mosque overflows with worshippers. Travellers passing through Dagestan can reach the mosque by marshrutka from the centre of Makhachkala, and nearby landmarks include the Caspian shoreline, the Tarki Tau heights, and the storied old quarter of Makhachkala bazaar known for its spices. An attached women's prayer section offers a quiet gallery overlooking the main hall, and childcare facilities accommodate young mothers who wish to pray without interruption. The imam, trained at one of the respected Dagestani Islamic institutes, receives visitors for religious consultations on inheritance, family reconciliation, and spiritual questions. Community elders meet weekly to plan charitable distributions to widows and orphans across the Novyy Khushet settlement and the surrounding mountain villages that still remember the hardships endured during the difficult decades that shaped modern Dagestan along these storied Caucasian slopes.
