Close to the Motor Truck Owners Association building in the northern Bangladeshi city of Mymensingh, the Zilla Motor Malik Somoti Jame Masjid gathers drivers, mechanics, owners, and their families for daily prayers and Friday congregations beneath the steady rhythm of the transport yard. The Bengali name Zilla Motor Malik Somoti signifies the district motor owners' association, and the mosque was funded by the members as a charitable endowment to serve those whose livelihoods depend on the long night roads of rural Bangladesh. Such trade guild mosques have a long lineage in the Muslim world, from the silk weavers of Bursa to the brass workers of Kano, and give spiritual meaning to the daily labour of their congregations.

Mymensingh itself sits along the Brahmaputra River in the old Mymensingh division, a region known for its rice paddies, jute fields, and dense mango orchards. The district's Islamic history is tied to the missionary traditions of medieval Bengal, especially the disciples of Shah Jalal of Sylhet, may God have mercy upon him, who spread the faith along the river valleys during the fourteenth century. The city also holds a place in Bengali literary memory as the home of the nineteenth century poet Ishwar Chandra Gupta and many others whose lines still echo in school readers.

Architecturally the mosque follows the lively Bangladeshi urban idiom: a central dome of gleaming white plaster crowned with a brass crescent, flanked by twin towers rising through three tapered levels with decorative banding, and a façade enlivened by pointed Andalusian arches tiled in green and gold. A wide entrance porch shelters worshippers from the monsoon rains. Within, the hall is airy and well proportioned, its floor covered in patterned green carpet, its mihrab carved in white marble with Thuluth calligraphy invoking God and pronouncing peace upon the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, and its minbar carved in teak with openwork geometric panels.

Daily prayers, Friday khutbas, Ramadan iftar tables for travellers and drivers stopping overnight, Quran memorisation classes, and eid assemblies that flow into the nearby transport yard fill the mosque's busy weeks with gentle devotion.
