Tentang
Mubarak al Kabir, the Kuwaiti governorate named in honour of Shaykh Mubarak al Sabah, the late nineteenth century ruler remembered as the founder of modern Kuwait, spreads across the southern residential districts where families have settled since the mid twentieth century oil era transformed the emirate. This mosque honours Aisha bint Abi Bakr al Siddiq, may God be pleased with her, mother of the believers, wife of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, and one of the most learned women of early Islam whose narrations of hadith and mastery of poetry, medicine and law shaped the first generation of Muslim scholars. The title umm al mu'minin, the mother of the believers, reflects the Qur'anic designation of the Prophet's wives and their elevated place in Muslim affection. Kuwait's Islamic heritage is shaped by the Bani Utub settlement of the early eighteenth century, the pearling and dhow trading networks that linked the emirate to Zanzibar, Bombay and Basra and the post oil era flourishing of religious endowments. Architecturally the Aisha mosque follows the contemporary Kuwaiti vernacular, with pale limestone cladding, a single turquoise tiled dome raised on an octagonal drum, a slender minaret and shaded arcades that cool the approach during summer. Inside, the mihrab is lined with hand cut cobalt ceramic, the mimbar rises in carved cedar steps and the carpet is woven in deep green marked with pale gold medallions. A dedicated women's section opens from the eastern side, fitting given the mosque's honourand, with generous space for women's halaqa and teaching circles. Prayers follow the times published by the Ministry of Awqaf, Jumu'ah khutbah is delivered in classical Arabic and Ramadan evenings bring tarawih led by local huffaz. Eid mornings fill the forecourt with families in freshly pressed dishdashas. Visitors should dress modestly, leave shoes on angled racks and silence mobile phones. Landmarks within reach include the Kuwait Towers, the Scientific Centre aquarium, the Tareq Rajab Museum and the sandy beaches of Messilah. The mosque welcomes all worshippers with courteous Kuwaiti dignity worthy of its name. The mosque hosts an annual seminar dedicated to Aisha's narrations of hadith, bringing together Kuwaiti women scholars and students from the College of Sharia at Kuwait University, and the proceedings are published as a slim printed volume distributed freely to the attendees as a living memorial to her extraordinary scholarly legacy.
