Tentang

On the campus of the Universitas Pembangunan Panca Budi in the busy northern Sumatran city of Medan, the Masjid Jami Darul Amin offers students, staff, and visitors a tranquil centre of worship within a bustling academic community. The Arabic expression Darul Amin, meaning the abode of the trustworthy, evokes one of the most beloved honorifics of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, who was known already in his youth by the people of Mecca as al Amin, the trustworthy, long before his prophetic mission formally began. The name therefore calls every worshipper to honesty in word and in deed.

Medan, capital of the North Sumatra province, grew during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries into a prosperous commercial hub based on tobacco, rubber, and palm oil plantations established by Dutch and Chinese merchants across the fertile plains of the Deli Sultanate. The sultanate itself, ruled by a respected Muslim family of Malay origin, gave its patronage to mosques, madrasahs, and the beautifully painted Istana Maimun palace that still draws visitors to the heart of the modern city. North Sumatran Islam combines Malay, Acehnese, Minangkabau, and Arab influences in a rich shared tradition.

The campus mosque serves the five daily prayers, Jumu'ah, and the festive Eid congregations, with student led programmes offering tafsir circles, hadith study, and classes in Arabic grammar throughout the academic year. The building follows the contemporary south east Asian style of pitched tiered roof, shaded external verandas, and a spacious prayer hall with polished tile floor covered during prayer times by long rolls of patterned carpet. Separate ablution and prayer facilities are thoughtfully provided for female students, who form a significant and active part of the university community.

On this page visitors will find accurate daily prayer times for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha at the Medan campus masjid, along with its address, a helpful location map, and practical notes that assist students and staff of Universitas Pembangunan Panca Budi, researchers visiting the university, travellers exploring the cultural heritage of the Deli Sultanate, and families residing in the surrounding neighbourhoods to attend the friendly and disciplined congregational worship offered here throughout the academic year and Ramadan.
