Tentang

Masjid Nurul Ihsan in Makassar carries a name combining two deeply meaningful Arabic terms that together express a profound spiritual aspiration. Nur means light, and ihsan means excellence, perfection, or the highest level of spiritual awareness in which a Muslim worships Allah as though seeing Him, knowing that even if one does not see Allah, He certainly sees the worshipper. The concept of ihsan comes directly from the famous hadith of Jibril, where the angel appeared to Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, in the form of a man and asked him about iman, islam, and ihsan, with the Prophet's answers forming one of the foundational texts of Islamic teaching. Nurul Ihsan, or the Light of Excellence, thus expresses the aspiration to illuminate the community through the pursuit of spiritual excellence, beautiful conduct, and constant awareness of the divine gaze. The mosque serves its Makassar neighborhood in this spirit, encouraging worshippers to cultivate the quality of ihsan through their prayers, their interactions with family and neighbors, their professional conduct, and their charitable giving. Facilities typically include an ablution area, a main prayer hall oriented toward the qiblah, a separate women's prayer area, classrooms for Quran instruction, and administrative offices. The mosque follows the Shafi'i school of jurisprudence that predominates Indonesian Muslim practice. The imam leads the five daily prayers and delivers Friday khutbahs in Indonesian and sometimes regional languages like Makassarese, addressing themes of faith, ethical conduct, and the cultivation of ihsan in all dimensions of life. During Ramadan, the mosque becomes especially vibrant with tarawih prayers drawing capacity crowds, kuliah shubuh lectures after fajr, iftar meals served communally, and Quran reading programs. Eid prayers bring large, festively dressed congregations for morning services followed by traditional celebrations. The mosque coordinates Qurbani sacrifices on Idul Adha in accordance with Islamic tradition. Weekend TPA programs teach children Quran recitation with proper tajweed, Arabic letters, stories of the prophets, peace be upon them all, and the foundations of Islamic ethics with particular emphasis on beautiful conduct in all relationships.
