Tentang
Named after Shaikh Muhammad Abu Rommana, may God have mercy on him, a respected teacher whose weekly lessons shaped generations of Bahraini youth, this mosque serves a residential block of Madinat Hamad in the Central Governorate of the Kingdom of Bahrain. Madinat Hamad was founded in nineteen eighty four as a planned city to absorb the growth of the Bahraini population, and its neat grid of wide streets and low rise villas includes a mosque in almost every roundabout, each serving the daily needs of the surrounding neighbourhood. Bahrain's Islamic heritage is among the earliest in the Gulf, the archipelago having sent a delegation to Medina during the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, and embraced Islam under the guidance of the Companion al Ala al Hadrami, may God be pleased with him, whose example is still recalled in local sermons. The mosque named for Shaikh Abu Rommana reflects the refined modern Bahraini style, with a pale sandstone facade, a single central dome tiled in turquoise and a slender minaret bearing a pair of balconies for the adhan. The arched entrance is set within a carved plaster surround reading verses from Surah al Tawbah about the merit of those who build houses of God. Inside, the prayer hall is lit by a grand chandelier of cut crystal and carpeted in rich green, the mihrab clad in honey coloured marble and calligraphic panels inscribed in the diwani and thuluth scripts. A women's section is positioned at the back of the hall behind wooden screens with dedicated wudu facilities. Friday prayers draw residents of Madinat Hamad in crisp white thobe and ghutra, and the khutbah is delivered in classical Arabic by an imam appointed by the Ministry of Justice and Islamic Affairs. During Ramadan the mosque board organises iftar tables seating hundreds, followed by tarawih led by a hafiz. Visitors are welcome to enter outside prayer times provided they dress modestly, observe silence in keeping with Bahraini devotional manners and pay quiet respect to the scholar whose name the building preserves.
