Named in honour of the greatest Messenger, the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, this Jami mosque at Madinat Hamad in the Central Governorate of Bahrain serves a planned residential district whose development during the late twentieth century created new neighbourhoods for Bahraini families across the archipelago kingdom. Madinat Hamad stands as one of Bahrain's larger planned cities, featuring organised residential blocks, schools, commercial centres, and mosques that together serve tens of thousands of residents. Bahraini mosque architecture draws on Gulf traditions of coral stone and gypsum plaster construction, wind catching towers that cooled interiors in the age before electricity, carved wooden doors and window screens, and modest domes and minarets scaled to the coastal climate.
