Tentang

Serving the academic community of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Pusat Islam UMT stands on the campus in Kuala Terengganu on the east coast of peninsular Malaysia, blending the functions of a congregational mosque with those of an Islamic student centre. Terengganu has been a centre of Malay Islamic learning since medieval times, home to the celebrated Batu Bersurat, one of the earliest inscriptions of Islamic law in the Malay world, dated to the fourteenth century. The state retains a strong attachment to traditional Malay Muslim culture, visible in its dress, cuisine, and the prominence of its mosques along the coast and rivers.

Pusat Islam translates as Islamic Centre, a common Malaysian university institution that organises daily prayers, student welfare, da'wah programmes, Qur'anic study circles, and charitable activities. Such centres continue the ancient practice, taught by the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, of combining worship with learning and community care, a model his Companions, may God be pleased with them, preserved when they spread across the Muslim world. Placing an Islamic centre within a coastal university campus reminds every student that academic life should remain rooted in remembrance of God.

The building itself is a modern mosque designed to suit the tropical climate of Terengganu. A large prayer hall with tall windows, ceiling fans and air conditioning, a tiled mihrab, a carved wooden minbar, and carpets in deep green welcome worshippers, while adjoining seminar rooms, a library, offices for the imam and student body, and ablution facilities serve the wider educational mission. A slender minaret and a small courtyard tie the complex visually to the Malay mosque tradition that runs along the Terengganu coast.

Students, lecturers, administrative staff, and visiting guests from across Malaysia gather here for the five daily prayers, for Jumu'ah delivered in Malay with Arabic khutbah, and for taraweeh during Ramadan, when the campus fills with the recitation of young huffaz trained in the centre's own Qur'anic programme. On this page travellers and newcomers will find the current prayer times, the campus address, and helpful notes to guide every pilgrim, student, family member, and passing visitor in joining the warm congregational life of UMT's Islamic centre comfortably throughout every semester of the Malaysian university academic year.
