Located in Karachi, Sindh province of Pakistan, Markazi Masjid wa ImamBargah Haider e Karrar honours Ali ibn Abi Talib, may God be pleased with him, cousin and son in law of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family. The title Haider e Karrar, the valiant lion who returns charging, was given to Imam Ali for his courage at the Battle of Khaybar, when the Prophet handed him the standard and declared that he would love God and His Messenger and be loved by them in return. His opening of the gate of Khaybar became proverbial across the Muslim world.

The term imambargah describes a Pakistani institution that combines a mosque with a dedicated hall for religious gatherings, especially during the sacred month of Muharram when believers commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Husayn and his companions at Karbala in the year sixty one after the hijra. Pakistani Muslims have long honoured the noble prophetic household, and naming the Karachi markazi masjid after Imam Ali places the congregation firmly within the tradition of devotion to the Ahl al Bayt that has flourished across the Indian subcontinent since the arrival of Islam through Sind under Muhammad bin al Qasim al Thaqafi in 711.

Karachi itself, Pakistan's largest city, hosts one of the most diverse Muslim populations anywhere in the world, with families from every Pakistani province alongside Muhajir communities who migrated from northern India in 1947, and descendants of traders from Gujarat, Hadramawt, Aden, and the wider Indian Ocean world. Architecturally, the building reflects the Pakistani Indo Islamic tradition. Whitewashed walls trimmed with blue and green tile work, a central dome, twin slender minarets framing the façade, a wide courtyard for the overflow of worshippers on Muharram and Eid, and a carpeted prayer hall with a calligraphic mihrab and panels naming Muhammad, Fatima, Ali, Hasan, and Husayn all welcome the faithful.

This page lists accurate prayer times for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha at Markazi Masjid wa ImamBargah Haider e Karrar, along with the Karachi address and practical notes for visitors arriving from the port of Keamari, from Clifton Beach and the blessed shrine of Abdullah Shah Ghazi, or from the Empress Market and Saddar shopping district. During Muharram the imambargah fills with black banners, sorrowful nauha and marsiya recitations in Urdu, Sindhi, and Punjabi, and sabeels of cool water and milk generously distributed to passers by in memory of the thirst of the noble martyrs. Every traveller to the great southern port is warmly invited to step inside, pray with the devoted Pakistani congregation, and send abundant salawat upon the Prophet and Ali the valiant lion of God whose dignity continues to illuminate every believing heart walking the blessed eternal path.
