Tentang

Rising among the dense streets of Karachi in the Sindh province of Pakistan, Jamia Masjid Haqani belongs to the vast and varied family of Karachi mosques that grew alongside the rapid urban expansion of South Asia's largest metropolis over the past century. Karachi itself has roots reaching back to the fishing village of Kolachi on the Arabian Sea, but it blossomed into a major port city during the nineteenth century under British rule and exploded after 1947 with the arrival of millions of Muslim migrants from across the subcontinent. The name Haqani, meaning the Truthful or the Upholder of Truth, reflects a Qur'anic theme central to Pakistani religious life, in which the believer is called to live, speak, and act in accordance with the revealed truth.
Pakistani Islamic heritage is rich and multilayered, reaching back through the scholars of Multan, Lahore, and Sindh to the first Muslim traders who arrived on the coast of Makran in the eighth century. The early Sindhi port of Debal became one of the first outposts of Muslim engagement with the subcontinent, and from there the faith spread inland through generations of teachers, saints, traders, and soldiers. Modern Karachi preserves that heritage through a dense network of mosques, madrasas, and Qur'an memorisation centres that shape daily life across its neighbourhoods.
The mosque itself follows the modern South Asian urban masjid pattern. A tiled facade frames tall arched entrances, slender minarets rise above the rooftops, and a central dome crowns the main prayer hall. Inside, patterned carpets cover the floor, ceiling fans turn steadily through the humid Karachi summers, and calligraphic panels carry verses of the Qur'an and names of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, and his companions. Friday sermons are delivered primarily in Urdu, with Arabic citations drawn directly from the Qur'an and prophetic hadith, while during Ramadan the mosque offers collective iftars of pakora, chana chaat, and sweet sherbet before Maghrib. Daily prayer times for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha at Jamia Masjid Haqani appear on this page for every resident and visitor of Karachi.
