Tentang

Within a quiet residential quarter of Karachi, Jama Masjid Babul Jannat served by the Khuddam ul Masajid Dawateislami trust welcomes a devoted congregation through a name meaning the door of paradise. The phrase Bab al Jannah is drawn from the hadith literature that describes the eight gates of paradise mentioned by the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, and the aspiration that a mosque's entrance might itself be a door leading the worshipper towards divine mercy. Dawateislami, the movement founded by the Pakistani scholar Muhammad Ilyas Attar Qadri, has established a network of mosques, madrasahs, and study circles across Pakistan and the global diaspora, with an emphasis on devotion to the Prophet, remembrance of God, and the adoption of the green turban as a mark of the movement's lovers.

Karachi's role as a centre of Dawateislami activity is significant, with many mosques like this one anchoring a tightly woven ecosystem of weekly ijtimas, monthly madani halqas, and door to door invitations to prayer. The community contributes to the vibrant texture of the city's religious life.

The building follows a characteristic Karachi idiom. Cream and green painted walls over fired brick, twin slender minarets flanking the entrance, a central ribbed dome above the square prayer hall, and Mughal revival pointed arches frame the exterior composition. Fretwork screens in white concrete filter the sunlight, and a small courtyard paved in grey granite welcomes worshippers through an iron gate. A modest ablution area opens along the side wall.

Inside, the hall is bright and cool. Long runners of green patterned carpet lead the rows towards a mihrab of cream marble bordered with gilded Naskh calligraphy, above which hangs a green cloth bearing the Prophet's name. a polished mimbar of aged teak has been set alongside the niche, and ceiling fans turn steadily above the worshippers during the long Karachi summers. A mezzanine offers a generous women's prayer area.

The weekly Thursday night ijtima fills the hall with the quiet cadence of salat wa salaam upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, while the Ramadan tarawih gathers hundreds of faithful night after night under a canopy of lights.
