Tentang
Surau Taman Molek serves the Taman Molek residential area of Johor Bahru, Malaysia — a well-established residential neighbourhood of the city, home to a mix of professionals, families, and retirees drawn by its comfortable living standards and convenient location. The surau is a neighbourhood-scale prayer space, following the standard Malaysian pattern of providing daily salah, weekend religious education, and seasonal programming to the immediate community. The building is modest, typical of residential suraus — a single prayer hall with carpet, a simple mihrab, a women's section, wudu facilities, and a verandah or porch area. The kariah is made up of Taman Molek residents who depend on the surau as their daily anchor for prayer, and the surau's programmes reflect the character of the neighbourhood's residents — middle-class, education-conscious, actively engaged in community life. Daily prayers bring the regulars of the community, with the familiar pattern of attendance across the five salawat. The Friday jumu'ah is held at a larger nearby mosque. Weekend Qur'an classes for children run in the afternoons, with volunteer teachers from within the community guiding students through the qaidah and the mushaf. The women's halaqa meets weekly, and monthly tahlil and yasin gatherings mark the community's spiritual rhythm. During Ramadan, the surau becomes the centre of nightly community activity, with taraweeh filling the hall, iftar organised by family rotations, tausiyah sessions between Maghrib and Isha, and the particular spiritual focus of the final ten nights. Eid prayers draw the families of the kariah in new clothes, with takbir ringing from the loudspeaker from dawn. The Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم said that the most beloved places on earth to Allah are its mosques, and while a surau is a smaller scale of religious institution than a full masjid, the same principle extends: any place dedicated to the worship of Allah, however modest, is loved by Him. The worshippers of Surau Taman Molek quietly gather in that divine love every day as they slip off their sandals, make wudu, and stand shoulder to shoulder behind the imam in the quiet act of prayer that has anchored Muslim life for fourteen centuries.
