Tentang
Masjid Kg. Kangkar Tebrau is located in Kampung Kangkar Tebrau, a kampung on the outskirts of Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The name Kangkar Tebrau refers to a riverside landing or jetty on the Tebrau River, a traditional gathering place for the kampung's activities in earlier generations when the river was the main route for fishing, trade, and movement. Though the area has modernised over the decades, traces of its kampung character remain in the layout of homes, the sense of community, and the deep local roots of the families who live there. The mosque serves the kariah with the full range of Malaysian Islamic institutional services: daily prayers, Friday jumu'ah, weekend religious education for children, a tahfiz programme for Qur'an memorisation, regular ceramah, and seasonal programming around Ramadan and the Eids. The building carries the vernacular character of Malaysian mosque architecture: a central dome, a minaret, a wide courtyard, a well-furnished prayer hall, and a separate women's section. The imam is a respected local figure, often trained at one of Johor's religious institutions, who leads the prayers, delivers the Friday khutbah, and serves as a spiritual and practical guide to the community through the cycle of its major life events. The mosque committee, drawn from senior members of the kariah, handles the building's upkeep, the programmes of education and ceramah, and the collection and distribution of the community's zakat and sadaqah. Children attend kelas mengaji in the afternoons, progressing through the qaidah, short suras, and eventually the full mushaf under the patient instruction of volunteer ustadh. During Ramadan, the mosque is the heart of community life, with taraweeh every night and iftar organised on a rota. The Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم said that nothing has a more beautiful sound to Allah than the recitation of the Qur'an, and the recitation that rises from this kampung mosque every day and night is part of the continuous chain of recitation across the earth. Every year during the community's annual fundraising drive, a few of the oldest kariah members quietly pledge what they can afford without telling anyone else how much, and in that small refusal of display they embody the hadith of hidden sadaqah.
