Tentang

Masjid Jamek Pasir Pelangi is located in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, in the Pasir Pelangi area, whose name means "rainbow sand" and refers to the variety of colours found in the sand of the coastline here. The mosque is a jamek — one authorised to hold the Friday congregational prayer — and serves the surrounding kariah, a mix of long-settled Malay families, newer residents, and the wider community of Johor Bahru. The Sultan of Johor maintains a palace in the Pasir Pelangi area, giving the neighbourhood a particular association with Johor's royal heritage, and the mosque benefits from both public and private patronage. The building is substantial, with the characteristic Malaysian mosque architecture of a large central dome, minarets, a wide courtyard, and ample space for congregational prayers that swell to capacity on Fridays. Inside, the prayer hall is carpeted in the saf pattern, with a richly decorated mihrab, an elaborate minbar, and chandeliers overhead. The women's section is well appointed, and the wudu facilities are ample and well maintained. Daily prayers are held on schedule, and the Friday gathering draws men from across the surrounding neighbourhoods. The mosque runs a kelas mengaji for children, a tahfiz programme for those who wish to memorise the Qur'an, and a series of ceramah from visiting ustadh that draw crowds across Johor. Ramadan is observed with taraweeh every night, a charity bubur lambuk distribution in the morning hours of the month for the surrounding residents, and communal iftar meals funded by zakat and sadaqah from more prosperous members of the community. The Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم described the mosque as the most beloved place on earth to Allah, and for the Pasir Pelangi community, their mosque is not only a beloved place but a focal point of community life, a reminder of royal patronage, and a daily anchor in the lives of those who come and pray. The new extension, completed a few years ago, doubled the capacity of the women's section and included the kind of spacious wudu facilities that older mosques only dream of, a practical improvement the muslimat of Pasir Pelangi had patiently waited for.
