Tentang
Masjid Jamek Kampung Bendahara serves the Kampung Bendahara community in Johor Bahru, Malaysia — a kampung whose name Bendahara refers to the traditional Malay office of Bendahara, once a senior position in the Malay sultanate equivalent to a prime minister or chief minister. The name carries resonance with Johor's long royal and administrative heritage, and the mosque that bears the kampung's name inherits some of that historical weight. As a jamek mosque, it is authorised to host the Friday congregational prayer and serves its kariah with the full Malaysian Islamic institutional programme. The building reflects the Malaysian mosque tradition, with a central dome, a minaret, a wide courtyard, and substantial prayer halls for both men and women. The imam is a respected local figure, leading the daily prayers, delivering the Friday khutbah, and officiating at the significant life events of the kariah. The mosque committee is drawn from senior members of the community and oversees the building's upkeep, the programme of religious education, and the community's charitable work. Children attend kelas mengaji in the afternoons, learning the Arabic alphabet, short suras, and basic Islamic knowledge from volunteer teachers. Older students progress to tajweed and Qur'an memorisation programmes, with some continuing on to full hafiz status. Women's programming is active, with weekly halaqat, monthly tahlil gatherings, and substantial involvement in the organisation of Ramadan iftar meals. During Ramadan, the mosque is the heart of community life, with taraweeh every night, communal iftar served before Maghrib, a programme of tausiyah and tafsir sessions, and the particular spiritual intensification of the final ten nights. Eid prayers pack the hall and spill into the courtyard, with families in new clothes and children running excitedly between relatives. The Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم said that the best row of men in prayer is the first and the best row of women is the last, and the regular jamaah of Masjid Jamek Kampung Bendahara arrange themselves accordingly, filling the rows from front to back in the settled rhythm of generations of Islamic practice.
