The mosque serves as a Friday mosque — a masjid jamek rather than a smaller surau — and hosts Jumu'ah prayer alongside the five daily prayers, with a dedicated minbar, a formal imam, and the administrative structure required by the Penang Islamic Religious Council for registered mosques. The building is modest compared with the state mosque on the other side of George Town, but substantial enough to serve its neighbourhood: a clear dome visible from several streets away, a minaret from which the adhan is broadcast five times a day, a main prayer hall that accommodates several hundred worshippers, and a separate women's section.
