Tentang

Shehbaz Town in Block B of Faisalabad is a residential suburb laid out on the neat grid plan that has defined this Punjabi city since its Victorian origins as Lyallpur, and at a prominent corner of the block stands Abu Bakr Masjid, named for the first caliph Abu Bakr al Siddiq, may God be pleased with him, whose steadfast companionship of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, is celebrated each Friday in the khutbah. Faisalabad itself is Pakistan's third largest city and its textile heartland, home to millions of weavers, dyers, tailors, and mill workers whose labour supplies much of the country's cloth and garment export, and the masjid reflects the sober prosperity of middle class neighbourhoods sustained by that industry. The building follows a pleasing contemporary Punjabi style, with a pistachio green dome, twin minarets clad in white marble chips, and a broad prayer hall able to accommodate several hundred worshippers on a standard Friday. Inside, the mihrab is lined with Multani blue tilework, calligraphic panels in thuluth script run beneath the dome, and long rows of ceiling fans churn the warm air during the Punjab summer. A separate women's section with its own entrance allows sisters to attend Jumu'ah, lectures, and Qur'an classes in comfort. Daily prayers are punctual, with a muadhin whose voice is well known in the block, and after each fajr a short dars, or lesson, is offered in Urdu on a chapter of the Qur'an or a hadith collection. During Ramadan the masjid hosts taraweeh with a complete khatm of the Qur'an, and iftar is distributed to labourers and rickshaw drivers outside. Eid gatherings, marriage contracts, and funeral prayers are regular events. Visitors should wear modest clothing, enter quietly, and follow local etiquette including covering the head for women entering the prayer area. Local elders recall the masjid's foundation stone being laid during one cool Punjab winter many years ago when the block was still under construction, and the plaque at the entrance preserves the names of founding donors who contributed land, bricks, and timber for the original prayer hall. Young men raised in Block B often return to lead taraweeh during Ramadan after completing their memorisation at madaris in Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi.
