About

Abdillah Kutait Masjid serves the Muslim community in Dubai, offering a place of worship, reflection, and community engagement amid the rapid development of the emirate. The mosque is named after a member of the Kutait family, a lineage with roots in the UAE's trading heritage, whose philanthropic contributions to the community include the founding of this place of worship. Dubai is home to hundreds of mosques, from grand landmarks like the Jumeirah Mosque to smaller neighborhood masajid that serve specific districts, and Abdillah Kutait Masjid belongs to the latter category, providing accessible daily prayer facilities for residents and workers in its surrounding area. The mosque's architecture typically incorporates features familiar to Arabian Peninsula worship spaces, including a minaret from which the adhan is called five times each day, a prayer hall with a carpeted floor oriented toward the qiblah in Makkah, a mihrab niche marking the direction of prayer, and a wooden minbar for the Friday khutbah. The adhan is called by a mu'adhin whose voice is often amplified through a minaret-mounted speaker system so that residents of the surrounding neighborhood are reminded of prayer times throughout the day, from fajr before dawn to isha after sunset. During Ramadan, the mosque conducts extended taraweeh prayers led by imams who recite long portions of the Holy Quran, with the goal of completing the entire revelation by the end of the blessed month. Iftar meals are traditionally served to the public, often sponsored by local families or businesses, and reflect the deep Emirati tradition of generosity during Ramadan. The mosque also hosts Quran recitation circles, lessons in Islamic jurisprudence, and occasionally hosts lectures by visiting scholars from across the Muslim world. As with all mosques in Dubai, Abdillah Kutait Masjid falls under the supervision of the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department of Dubai, which ensures consistency of religious guidance and operational standards across the emirate. The mosque also hosts community events that go beyond daily prayers, including discussions on Islamic issues facing Muslims in the contemporary world, classes on Arabic language for non-Arabic speakers, and occasional fundraising campaigns for charitable causes including orphanages and disaster relief efforts both within the UAE and internationally.
