Anadolu Camii Moschee in Dortmund carries the name Anadolu — Anatolia, the heartland of Turkey — a name that roots the mosque in the geographic and cultural homeland of the majority of its congregation. Nearly every migrant community in Germany has a mosque somewhere that names itself after its place of origin, and Anadolu Camii is a piece of that pattern, a small Anatolian homeland transplanted to the Ruhr. The mosque serves a Turkish-speaking community with the standard calendar of religious services: five daily prayers, Friday jumu'ah, weekend children's school, women's programming, and seasonal observances. The building is typical of community-built Turkish mosques in Germany — an adapted commercial or warehouse space, converted through years of volunteer labour into a dignified prayer hall and community centre. Inside, the carpet runs in long saf lines, the mihrab is simple wooden carving, the minbar short and functional, and the ceiling fans hum through summer prayers. The imam leads the congregation with careful recitation, and the Friday khutbah covers the themes of Turkish Sunni Islamic life in diaspora. The children's weekend school, run by volunteer teachers, teaches Arabic script, Qur'an recitation, short suras, and basic Islamic knowledge to perhaps fifty or sixty students at a time, with older children progressing to memorisation and tajweed programmes. The women's section holds halaqat, mevlid gatherings, and charity circles, and many of the older women there are the quiet backbone of the mosque, remembered by name by every child who grew up attending lessons there. Ramadan transforms the mosque into a twenty-four-hour community centre, with teravih every night, iftar meals provided by family rotations, and special programming for the children. The Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم said that the one who feeds a fasting person has the reward of that fast as well, and the hosts of Anadolu Camii's iftar meals quietly harvest that reward every night of Ramadan. In the slow accumulation of these small faithful acts, a community is made and a faith is kept alive across the generations. The original founders included several retired railway workers whose steady contributions during the early years made the down payment possible, and their names are still mentioned in the occasional gratitude du'a recited by the committee.
