Tentang
Carrying the name of the companion Mu'adh ibn Jabal, may God be pleased with him, this mosque in Djebilet Rosfa within the Tiaret province of Algeria honours a young companion whom the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, praised for his knowledge of the lawful and the forbidden and whom he dispatched as a teacher and governor to Yemen. Mu'adh's memory remains especially cherished among those devoted to the transmission of sacred knowledge and sound judgement in religious matters. Tiaret province lies on the high plateau of western Algeria, a landscape of wheat fields, sheep pastures, and scattered agricultural villages whose rhythms have changed little across the centuries. The regional capital at Tiaret preserves remains of its early medieval role as the capital of the Rustamid state, an early Islamic polity whose scholarship and administration left an imprint across the western Maghreb. Algerian mosque architecture draws on Andalusian, Maghrebi, and Ottoman inheritance, featuring whitewashed walls, horseshoe arches, painted or tiled decoration, square or octagonal minarets, and interior prayer halls suited to the climate. This mosque at Djebilet Rosfa follows regional character, its presence among the surrounding fields and homes providing a dignified focus for village religious life. Inside, the carpeted prayer hall features a mihrab, a wooden minbar, and perhaps painted Qur'anic inscriptions along the upper walls. Daily prayers gather village men from surrounding farms and workshops, and Jumu'ah fills the hall with a wider congregation. Sermons in classical Arabic with reflection in Algerian dialect address religious themes and often draw on the life and teaching of Mu'adh, may God be pleased with him, as a model for knowledge, humility, and service to the community. Ramadan brings communal iftar gatherings featuring Algerian specialities including harira soup, bourek pastries, dolma, lamb stews, and sweet pastries of makroud and zalabia. Taraweeh prayers extend the evenings with devoted recitation. Qur'anic memorisation classes for children run throughout the year. Women worship in a dedicated section. Nearby attractions include the Rustamid archaeological remains at Tahert, the Ouarsenis mountain landscapes, and the Sebkha shallow salt lake.
