Rising in the former hat making city of Danbury in the western part of the American state of Connecticut, the masjid of the Islamic Society of Western Connecticut gathers a diverse congregation of believers who have made their homes among the wooded hills and quiet lakes of Fairfield County. Danbury flourished during the nineteenth century as the hat capital of the United States, producing quality felt hats worn throughout the young republic, before turning during the twentieth century towards light industry, finance, and the modern service economy that continues to employ its residents today in many growing professional fields.

The Islamic community of western Connecticut has grown steadily since the late twentieth century, with families arriving from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, the Arab world, Turkey, Bosnia, Albania, and west Africa, along with American born Muslims of every background. The imam leads Jumu'ah in English, with Qur'anic verses and salawat upon the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, offered in classical Arabic. Weekend school classes and youth programmes flourish beside the prayer hall.
