Taking its full title from the beloved grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, Jamaa al Imam al Husayn ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib (God be pleased with him) with him, welcomes worshippers in Dammam, the principal city of the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia along the Arabian Gulf coast. Imam al Husayn holds an honoured place across the entire Islamic tradition as the master of the youth of paradise, the son of Fatimah al Zahra and her husband Ali ibn Abi Talib, and the grandson whom the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, loved deeply and often carried on his shoulders. Dedicating a grand jamaa to his memory in the Eastern Province reflects the deep love for the prophetic family that pervades Arabian Islamic culture. Dammam itself has grown dramatically since the discovery of oil in the 1930s, evolving from a small pearling settlement into a major industrial and commercial metropolis whose skyline along the corniche rises beside refineries, shipping terminals, and the King Fahd Causeway linking the Saudi mainland to Bahrain. The Eastern Province is home to significant populations tracing their origins across the Arabian peninsula, the wider Arab world, and South Asia, enriching the region's religious and cultural landscape. Architecturally the jamaa follows the confident contemporary Saudi idiom, a vast prayer hall clad in pale stone, a central dome rising above several smaller subsidiary domes, twin minarets whose thin profile is visible from miles away, arcaded courtyards providing shade, and richly ornamented interiors featuring muqarnas vaulting, polished marble mihrab, and expansive carpets woven in deep burgundy. Five daily prayers follow the Umm al Qura schedule, Jumu'ah draws thousands of worshippers, with Ramadan bringing tarawih each evening with melodious recitation, free iftars handed out in the courtyard including dates, laban, saleeg, and machbous. Eid prayers fill the entire complex. Visitors exploring Dammam's corniche, the Ithra King Abdulaziz Centre for World Culture in nearby Dhahran, or the Heritage Village will find this jamaa a peaceful stop for prayer and reflection. The jamaa thus remains one of the most prominent devotional landmarks of the Eastern Province, its activities continuing to gather thousands of worshippers into the unbroken chain of prayer that links Dammam to the wider Arabian heritage of faith, learning, and charitable endeavour shaped across many remarkable centuries.
