Tentang

Mosque of the Thankful, located in Baghdad, takes its name from one of the most beloved qualities described in the Qur'an: gratitude. The shakirin, "the thankful", are praised in many verses as those who recognise God's blessings with humble hearts and responsive action, and Prophetic tradition emphasises that gratitude is a path to increased blessing and deeper intimacy with the Creator. A mosque built under such a name carries a quiet but constant invitation to its worshippers: to pray not only to ask, but also to thank. The mosque serves a local neighbourhood in the Iraqi capital, offering the five daily prayers, Friday congregations and the full calendar of Islamic observances. The prayer hall is carefully prepared for salah, with carpets oriented towards the qibla, a mihrab, a minbar and a women's section. The imam leads prayers in the refined Iraqi style of Qur'anic recitation and delivers sermons in Arabic that often return to themes of thankfulness, patience and remembrance. Ramadan at this mosque is a particularly gentle and moving season, with taraweeh prayers, iftars shared among families and travellers, and programmes emphasising reflection, du'a and gratitude for the gift of fasting. Qur'anic education for children is a central feature, with weekend and evening classes teaching tajwid, memorisation and basic Islamic studies. Adult study circles focus on tafsir, especially of verses dealing with gratitude and mercy, as well as seerah and fiqh. Charitable work includes the collection of zakat, support for widows and orphans, and food aid for families in need, understood as practical expressions of gratitude for what God has given. Weddings, aqiqahs and funerals are coordinated through the mosque, integrating worship into the life events of the community. In a city whose history has known both grandeur and hardship, the Mosque of the Thankful reminds worshippers of one of the quieter truths of faith: that the most enduring response to life's mixture of blessing and trial is a heart sincerely grateful to its Maker. Members of the Mosque of the Thankful often speak with warmth about the collective du'a sessions organised on Thursday nights, where worshippers pray aloud for one another by name, turning gratitude for shared blessings into a reinforcing bond across the congregation.
