Tentang

Al-Anbiya Mosque, located in Baghdad, bears a name rooted in the Qur'anic concept of al-anbiya, "the Prophets", the long chain of messengers sent by God throughout history to guide humanity. Surah Al-Anbiya in the Qur'an is dedicated to recounting the stories of many of these Prophets, from Ibrahim and Musa to Sulayman, Ayyub, Yunus and the Final Messenger Muhammad (may Allah bless him and his family and grant them peace). Naming a mosque after the Prophets collectively honours the continuity of divine guidance across generations and invites worshippers to draw lessons from the varied lives of these noble figures. The mosque serves as a local gathering place in the Iraqi capital, offering the five daily prayers, Friday congregations and the complete calendar of Islamic observances. The prayer hall is arranged with carpets oriented carefully towards the qibla, a mihrab marking the direction of Mecca and a minbar used for the weekly sermon. A minaret marks its presence on the surrounding street. The imam leads prayers in the refined Iraqi style of Qur'anic recitation, and khutbahs delivered in Arabic often draw on the stories of the Prophets to illustrate themes of patience, trust in God, family life and responsibility to community. Ramadan is a particularly rich season, with long taraweeh prayers, shared iftars and programmes dedicated to Qur'anic study and especially the stories of the Prophets. Qur'anic education for children frequently makes use of these stories to teach faith, ethics and good character. Adult study circles explore tafsir, seerah and fiqh, often dedicating sessions to the lives of individual Prophets. Charitable work includes zakat collection, support for widows and orphans, and aid for families in need. Weddings, aqiqahs and funerals are coordinated through the mosque. For its congregants, Al-Anbiya Mosque is a constant reminder that the long chain of Prophets sent by God offers guidance, hope and example for every generation of believers. A distinctive feature of Al-Anbiya Mosque is its calligraphic decoration, which highlights the names of many of the Prophets around the upper walls of the prayer hall, offering every worshipper a visual reminder of the long chain of divine guidance.
