Built to serve the Royal Air Force of Oman housing quarters at as Sib al Jadidah, this masjid sits within the Muhafazat Masqat on the coastal plain north west of Muscat, where dry mountain wadis meet the gentle waters of the Gulf of Oman. Oman holds a special place in Islamic history, for it embraced the faith during the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, after Amr ibn al As, may God be pleased with him, was sent with the letter inviting the sons of al Julanda to Islam. The brothers accepted without resistance, and their people have carried the faith with quiet dignity ever since.

As Sib itself has long been a royal town, home to a handsome palace built by Sultan Qaboos bin Said and a coastline where traditional dhow builders still shape vessels from teak and frankincense wood. The housing quarters of the Royal Air Force lie nearby, built to accommodate the families of officers, engineers, and aircrew who serve the Sultanate. Every residential cluster of Omani state service naturally includes its own masjid so that the five daily prayers remain within easy walking distance for each family.

Architecturally, the building reflects the classical Omani taste. White plastered walls reflect the harsh Gulf sunlight, a dome of modest proportions sits above a hall carpeted with deep red wool, a single slender minaret rises above date palms planted in the forecourt, and a lattice of carved screens allows the sea breeze to cool the interior during the sticky summer months. Calligraphic bands around the mihrab cite verses from the Qur'an that recall the blessing of security and safe dwelling places.

The present page provides daily prayer timings for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha at this masjid, along with its as Sib al Jadidah address and travel notes for visitors arriving by the coastal highway from Seeb International Airport, from the Grand Mosque of Sultan Qaboos with its celebrated prayer rug and chandelier, or from the old harbour town of Muttrah with its famous suq. Qur'an classes for the children of service families continue through every season, and during Ramadan the congregation gathers for long tarawih prayers led by imams trained at the Institute of Islamic Sciences in Muscat. Any traveller passing through the Sultanate is welcomed with Omani kahwa, a date, and the gentle peace that has blessed this land ever since its earliest embrace of the blessed message.
