Dedicated to the memory of Khabbab ibn al Aratt, may God be pleased with him, this mosque in Ar Rayyan, the large municipal expanse west of Doha, honours one of the earliest and most steadfast companions of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family. Khabbab was an ironsmith by trade who bore some of the worst persecution at the hands of the Meccan opposition, and his patience and tenacity are recalled in a beloved hadith in which the Prophet consoled him with the promise that God would surely complete the mission of the faith. Qatar's Islamic heritage traces back to the earliest generations after the Prophet's passing, when the Arab tribes of the peninsula embraced the new faith and contributed to the first conquests in the eastern provinces. The pearl diving and trading economy of the Qatari coast fostered a distinctive religious culture whose marks remain visible in prayers performed on dhows, charitable endowments funded from pearl profits, and majalis held in the diwaniyyas of the old quarter. Ar Rayyan has grown enormously over recent decades to become the country's second largest municipality, a mixture of older pearl coast villages and newer residential and sporting developments including the 2022 World Cup stadiums. Regional architectural style leans toward bleached limestone or plastered walling, compact white domes, slender minarets outlined against the Gulf sky, arched arcades, carved timber doors and yards planted with date palms. The five prayers daily gather residents and workers of Ar Rayyan, Friday assemblies fill the hall and often overflow into surrounding paving, tarawih through Ramadan stretches late into the cool evenings, and Eid mornings bring sweets passed among children in new clothes. Qur'an schools meet through the weekdays as the mosque frequently partners with local charities for iftar handouts across Ramadan. Travellers visiting Khalifa International Stadium, the Villaggio Mall or the old Mesaieed coastal road will find this neighbourhood mosque a fittingly quiet counterpart to the municipality's newer and more spectacular attractions. A dedicated room serves as an ablutions area equipped with hot water in winter months, reflecting the mosque management's careful attention to worshipper comfort across the seasonal changes that affect even the generally mild Qatari climate along the western coastal plain.
