Kuba Camii Moskee in Amsterdam commemorates the Quba Mosque, the first mosque built in the history of Islam, established by the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa alihi wa sallam himself during his hijrah from Makkah to Madinah when he stopped at the village of Quba on the outskirts of Madinah and ordered the foundation of this first house of Allah. The Quba Mosque holds an elevated place in Islamic tradition, with authentic hadith narrating that the Prophet used to visit it every Saturday and that offering two rakats of prayer there carries the reward of an accepted umrah. Naming this Amsterdam mosque after Quba thus connects its Turkish Muslim congregation with the very foundations of Islamic devotional life in Madinah. The mosque is an adapted urban building in one of Amsterdam's neighbourhoods serving Turkish and other Muslim worshippers with the five daily prayers, Friday Jumuah gathering, Qur'an recitation classes, Turkish language schooling for children born to immigrant families, Dutch language support for new arrivals, and full community services including marriage and funeral rites, zakat distribution, and welfare for those in need. The prayer hall inside is carpeted, oriented toward the qibla, adorned with calligraphy in the Ottoman style, and furnished with a mihrab, mimbar, and separate women's section. Ablution facilities are functional and well maintained. The mosque observes all major Islamic occasions including the mawlid of the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa alihi wa sallam recited in the traditional Turkish Suleyman Celebi Mevlid style, the Isra and Mi'raj commemoration, the Nuzul al Quran celebration, and the Laylatul Bara'at in Shaban. During Ramadan the mosque hosts nightly tarawih prayers, iftars with Turkish culinary specialties, and itikaf in the blessed final ten nights as worshippers pursue the accepting mercy that the Quba Mosque's namesake so richly evokes. The Kuba Camii Moskee community takes particular pride in its children's Qur'an memorisation programme, which has produced several young huffaz who lead the tarawih prayers during Ramadan, their clear recitation and confident leadership offering parents and elders genuine hope that the second and third generations of Turkish Dutch Muslims will carry forward the sacred tradition of Qur'an preservation that is one of Islam's greatest treasures.
