Islamitisch Centrum Quba in Amsterdam operates as a full service Islamic centre taking its name from the historic Quba Mosque in Madinah, the first house of worship founded by the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa alihi wa sallam after the hijrah. Going beyond a simple prayer space, the centre integrates a mosque, educational institution, youth hall, library, and community services under a single roof in the Dutch capital, serving a multicultural Muslim population of Moroccan, Turkish, Arab, and Dutch convert backgrounds. Amsterdam has long been home to such integrated Islamic centres, recognising that Muslim life requires more than a place to pray five times daily, it also needs institutions for education, social support, and cultural continuity, and the Islamitisch Centrum Quba fulfills each of these roles with dedication. The main prayer hall is spacious, carpeted, and oriented toward the qibla, with mihrab, mimbar, and separate women's facilities allowing full participation by sisters. Adjacent classrooms host Qur'an and Arabic lessons for children and adults, workshops on Islamic jurisprudence, seerah courses, and youth halaqa circles. A library holds books in Arabic, Dutch, English, Turkish, and Berber covering the disciplines of Islamic knowledge. The centre also provides marriage and funeral services, Islamic financial advice, welfare distribution during Ramadan and throughout the year, and youth sports and educational activities that keep children engaged within a healthy environment. Dutch language and integration classes support newer immigrants and converts navigating their new lives in the Netherlands. Ramadan transforms the centre into a vibrant communal space with nightly tarawih prayers, iftars served to hundreds, Qur'an khatm sessions, and itikaf in the final ten nights. Like its blessed namesake in Madinah, Islamitisch Centrum Quba welcomes worshippers into a space that fuses prayer, learning, and fellowship into a single living practice of Islam. Outreach programmes at the Islamitisch Centrum Quba include visits to schools, hospitals, and community centres in the wider Amsterdam region to explain Islamic practices, answer questions, and build bridges with non Muslim neighbours, in keeping with the dawah mission that motivated the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa alihi wa sallam to send ambassadors of Islam to every corner of the known world with the same gentle patience that characterised his own engagement with those who did not share his faith.
