The Royal Jordanian Guard Mosque in Amman serves the personnel of the elite military unit responsible for the protection of the Hashemite royal family, alongside their families and civilian employees based at the regimental headquarters. Jordan's Royal Guard carries a long institutional memory that traces back to the founding of the emirate of Transjordan in 1921, and its officers and enlisted ranks come from across the country's tribes, including Bedouin families of the southern deserts who have long provided the backbone of the Hashemite armed forces. The mosque is a dignified building in the Jordanian state architectural idiom that blends Levantine stonework with restrained modern lines: pale limestone cladding quarried from the hills around Ma'an, a single central dome finished in grey lead roofing, a slender minaret faced in dressed ashlar, and a forecourt shaded by carob and cypress trees planted when the complex was first laid out. Inside, the prayer hall is floored in deep red carpet woven with gold medallion patterns, the mihrab faced in marble and inlaid with mother of pearl calligraphy, and the minbar carved in dark walnut. A separate section serves women of the Royal Guard families. The congregation reflects the disciplined character of its institutional setting: officers in dress uniform or civilian thobe, enlisted soldiers, and the long settled Circassian and Chechen communities of West Amman whose ancestors were entrusted with the protection of the Hashemite house a century ago. Daily prayers follow a precise, measured pace. The khatib on Jumu'ah often touches on duty, loyalty, and the compassion of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, toward his companions, may God be pleased with them. Ramadan brings crowded tarawih and community iftars of mansaf, rice with nuts, and Jordanian sweets. Eid prayer spreads onto the regimental parade ground beneath the flag of the kingdom. Access to the mosque is generally limited to Royal Guard personnel and their guests, though its ceremonial role in state life is recognised across Amman. Close by stand the Hashemite royal palaces, Amman's old citadel hill with the Temple of Hercules, the Roman theatre in the heart of downtown, the King Abdullah I mosque with its blue mosaic dome, and the busy rainbow street of Jabal Amman with its cafes.
