The Mosque of our Master Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq (may God be pleased with him)

Honouring our beloved master Abu Bakr al Siddiq, may God be pleased with him, the first Rightly Guided Caliph and closest companion of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, this Alexandria mosque serves the historic Egyptian Mediterranean port city whose ancient founding by Alexander the Great still gives the city its name. Alexandria flourished across successive civilisations as a centre of learning, commerce, and cultural exchange, and the arrival of Islam in the seventh century through the conquest led by Amr ibn al As brought the city into the Muslim world where it has remained ever since. Caliph Abu Bakr's steadfast friendship with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, his generous spending in support of the early community, and his firm leadership during the Ridda wars that preserved the integrity of the Muslim state after the Prophet's passing ensure that his memory remains forever honoured. Alexandrian mosque architecture blends Fatimid, Mamluk, and Ottoman heritage with twentieth century construction, producing mosques that may feature carved stone facades, tall minarets of various regional styles, and interior courtyards or hypostyle halls. This mosque named for the Siddiq presents a dignified Mediterranean face, its walls perhaps coloured in cream or pale yellow against the intense sunlight. Inside, the carpeted prayer hall accommodates a diverse congregation including port workers, university students, shopkeepers, and residents of the surrounding neighbourhoods. Five daily prayers draw a steady core, while Jumu'ah fills the hall to capacity. Sermons in classical Arabic frequently draw on the life of Abu Bakr and the virtues of sincerity, truthfulness, and unwavering trust that he embodied. Ramadan brings communal iftar gatherings featuring Egyptian specialities including koshari, molokhia, fuul, taamiya, and sweet qatayef pastries. Taraweeh prayers fill the evenings. Qur'anic memorisation circles for children run throughout the year. Women worship in a dedicated section. Nearby attractions include the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the Citadel of Qaitbay on the old Pharos lighthouse site, the Roman amphitheatre at Kom al Dikka, the catacombs of Kom al Shoqafa, and the beautiful corniche that curves along the Mediterranean shore.
