Endowed by the pious couple Nasir Abdullah al Sabaii and his wife Shaykha Muhammad al Najm, this mosque in the city of Al Jahra in the Jahra Governorate of Kuwait embodies a cherished Gulf tradition in which a husband and wife together dedicate part of their wealth to the building of a house of prayer. Kuwait, a small country lying at the northwestern corner of the Arabian Gulf, has welcomed Islam since the earliest centuries of the faith, and its Bedouin and merchant families have long been known for generosity, honesty, and deep devotion. Many of the mosques that dot its cities today were built by such pious households whose names appear side by side on foundation stones.

Al Jahra, once a small oasis settlement northwest of Kuwait City, is historically significant as the site of the Battle of Jahra in October 1920, when the defenders of Kuwait fought to preserve their land. Today it is a growing city surrounded by agricultural villages and newly developed districts. The governorate as a whole stretches across the desert frontier toward the Iraqi border, and its residents include Kuwaiti citizens of long established families, Bedouin communities, and expatriate workers from many Muslim countries.

The custom of naming a masjid after a husband and wife honours the teaching of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, that a spouse is a protecting garment and companion on the road to paradise. It also celebrates the fact that women in the Arabian Peninsula have always played a vital role in charitable endowments, following the noble example of Lady Khadija, may God be pleased with her, who gave her wealth generously in support of the early Muslim community. Worshippers who hear the names read aloud are invited to offer a brief prayer of mercy for both of the benefactors.

The building is constructed in the modern Kuwaiti mosque style, with pale plastered walls, a central dome, a slender minaret, generous air conditioning for the harsh summer, and a mihrab faced with polished marble and carved Qur'anic calligraphy. On this page visitors will find accurate daily prayer times for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha, along with the mosque's address in Al Jahra, a location map, and notes that help residents of the governorate, workers commuting from Kuwait City, Bedouin families living further west, and travellers crossing to Iraq, to attend congregational worship here in peace and gratitude through every season of the Gulf year.
