Tentang

Named for Imam al Haramayn Abdul Malik bin Abdullah bin Yusuf al Juwayni, may God have mercy on him, this Kuwaiti mosque in al Funaytis honours one of the most celebrated scholars of medieval Islamic thought, whose title meaning Imam of the Two Holy Sanctuaries reflects the long years he spent teaching in Makkah and Madinah. Al Juwayni was among the teachers of the famous scholar Imam al Ghazali, may God have mercy on him, and his writings on legal theory and theology have remained foundational texts for centuries of students across the Muslim world. His name carries particular resonance because of his teaching residence in the two holy cities, making him a link between the scholarly traditions of Persia, Iraq, and the Hejaz during the eleventh century. Kuwait holds a distinguished place in modern Gulf history as an emirate whose ruling Al Sabah family guided the country into the oil era and helped establish significant educational, charitable, and religious institutions that serve Kuwaiti and wider Muslim communities. Kuwaiti mosque architecture blends Gulf traditions of white rendered walls, domes often faced with decorative tile, and slender minarets with modern construction techniques suited to the fierce desert climate and climate controlled interiors. This Imam al Haramayn mosque likely employs such a combination, presenting a dignified face to its al Funaytis surroundings. Inside, carpeted prayer hall floors accommodate worshippers across dedicated men's and women's sections, with a mihrab faced with decorated stone or tile, a wooden minbar, and clear acoustic amplification. Five daily prayers gather a steady core of worshippers from surrounding streets, and Jumu'ah fills the hall. Sermons in classical Arabic address Qur'anic themes, hadith guidance, and often draw on the scholarly legacy of al Juwayni whose works remain taught in contemporary Islamic studies. Ramadan transforms the mosque calendar with communal iftar featuring Kuwaiti dishes of machboos, harees, gabout dumplings, and sweet luqaimat and muhalabia, alongside taraweeh prayers. Qur'anic memorisation classes for children run throughout the year. Women worship in dedicated sections. Eid prayers draw extended families. Nearby attractions include the Scientific Center at Salmiya, the Grand Mosque of Kuwait, the Kuwait Towers, and the historic Seif Palace.
