Carrying the blessed name of the first caliph and closest friend of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, the masjid of Abu Bakr al Siddiq, may God be pleased with him, rises in the neighbourhood of Al Bunayyat al Shamaliyah in the hills of Amman, the capital of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Amman sits upon seven original hills, each once crowned by its own village and now absorbed into a sprawling modern city. The city has grown dramatically since the 1940s, welcoming Palestinians, Iraqis, Syrians, and other Arab families, each bringing their own religious traditions to enrich its neighbourhoods.
Abu Bakr al Siddiq is one of the most revered Companions in the entire history of Islam. He accepted the faith at the very outset of the Prophet's mission, accompanied him on the Hijrah to Medina while hiding in the cave of Thawr, and succeeded him as the first caliph after the Messenger's passing. His gentle character, unwavering truthfulness, and firm leadership in the face of the apostasy crisis preserved the young Muslim community at its most vulnerable moment. Naming a mosque in his honour expresses the community's love for sincerity, loyalty, and the quiet courage that refuses to abandon the truth.
The building reflects the contemporary Jordanian mosque style, which draws on Umayyad, Mamluk, and Ottoman influences. Walls of pale Jordanian limestone enclose a square prayer hall beneath a central dome, a slender minaret rises at the corner, and the interior is adorned with calligraphy praising the names of God and the first caliphs, may God be pleased with them. Soft carpets in deep red and green cover the floor, and the mihrab is faced with carefully carved stonework. Separate spaces accommodate men, women, and children's classes held between prayers.
Current daily prayer times for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha at the mosque of Abu Bakr al Siddiq in Al Bunayyat al Shamaliyah are provided on this page, together with its address, a location map, and notes that help residents of the surrounding neighbourhood, visitors to Amman, pilgrims journeying between the holy lands of Jerusalem and the Hijaz, and Jordanian expatriates returning home, to attend congregational worship here with calm confidence and a renewed love for the first of the rightly guided caliphs, whose example continues to inspire believers around the world.
