Tentang

Bab Al-Salam Mosque in Accra carries in its name an echo of the blessed Bab al-Salam — the Gate of Peace — one of the historic gates of the Sacred Mosque in Makkah through which pilgrims have long entered the Ka'bah's enclosure. By naming a Ghanaian mosque Bab Al-Salam, the community ties its local worship to that great memory, and also invokes the broader sense of peace — al-salam — that is both a name of Allah and the greeting exchanged among Muslims everywhere. The masjid serves the surrounding neighbourhood of the Ghanaian capital with the five daily prayers in congregation and a strong Friday gathering. The building is a working community mosque, with a clean prayer hall oriented toward Makkah, a clear mihrab, a simple minbar, adequate provision for men and women worshippers, and a reliable ablution facility. Friday khutbahs are typically delivered in a blend of Arabic, English, Hausa and other local Ghanaian languages, reflecting the diversity of the congregation, and often take up themes connected to the mosque's name — inward peace through sincere worship, peace within families and between spouses, peaceful coexistence with neighbours in Ghana's religiously plural society, and the wider duty of the ummah to promote justice. The mosque supports religious education for children through Qur'an and Arabic classes, and hosts occasional adult halaqat on aqeedah, fiqh and seerah. During Ramadan the masjid becomes a centre of local spiritual life, with nightly taraweeh, shared iftars, Qur'an completion events and charitable outreach to needy families. Eid prayers gather families in festive clothing. Visitors from other backgrounds are welcomed respectfully at appointed times, and donations toward upkeep, teaching work and charitable outreach are quietly encouraged by the local volunteers who sustain the mosque's ongoing service. The mosque's committee makes a particular point of welcoming first-time visitors and helping them feel at ease, whether they are travellers passing through Accra or curious locals exploring the faith for the first time, and this practice of open hospitality is itself a small living commentary on the name Bab Al-Salam.
